SAVING JOEY

Logline: When a nature-phobic Sydney lawyer finds herself stranded in the Australian outback with an orphaned baby kangaroo, she turns to an antisocial bushwacker for help. As they nurture the joey together, their mutual loathing turns to love, but nature and society conspire to keep them apart.

Bio: Simon Wilkinson is a London born, Anglo-Irish author and screenwriter – now based in North Yorkshire. After spending years as a history teacher, museum curator and animal sanctuary manager, Simon started writing professionally in 2013. He primarily writes historical drama and war stories with a British / Irish focus, but also has a passion for science fiction. His drama script entitled “The Harp Without the Crown” was a semi-finalist in the 2015 Adapted & True Story Screenplay Competition and his drama script entitled “Bluebirds” was a quarter-finalist in the 2015 Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition. He is currently working on several new projects for film, television and radio and is close to completing his first novel.

AN AMERICAN QUILT: STITCHING TOGETHER OUR 9/11 MEMORIES

Logline: Seven families – one goal; to heal from the sudden and violent loss of loved ones in 9/11. How are they doing now, 15 years later.

Roz Sohnen is an award winning writer and director. Roz began her filmmaking career with her award winning narrative short, PINK, which is in distribution through Phoenix Films. She has produced and directed, edited, written, and researched numerous film and video projects over the last 25 years. Some highlights include her role as Associate Producer on the PBS series, THEY CAME FOR GOOD (The History of the Jews in America); producing videos for the AUDUBON Society; and her work as producer/director of a series of short films for the MANHATTAN SCHOOL FOR EARLY LEARNING.

Storytelling has always been her passion, both documentary and narrative. Real people, not super heroes interest her. Relationships, families, friendships, fighting discrimination and supporting achievement despite the odds, the creative process and creating art have always been subjects of much interest for her. She finds the process of working with actors illuminating and growth producing. The Foursite Film Festival awarded her short narrative script, “Her Sister’s Keeper”, best short film screenplay. Subsequently, students at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah made the movie.

For the last 10 years, Roz was a member of the Digital Filmmaking faculty at the Art Institute of NYC. There she was able to inspire her students with her love of story, and character. Collaborating with others to make films is unique to the filmmaking art. She has been very fortunate to have found talented and dedicated artists to work with.

Roz has been a member of New York Women in Film since 1990. As co producer of the semi annual Archive Committee interviews, Roz was able to provide some of her best students with opportunities to assist on these professional shoots and network with those in the industry. She realizes the importance of recording the accomplishments of women in the industry and also preparing the next generation of filmmakers.

She holds an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she was honored with the Paulette Goddard Scholarship and received the Judge’s Special Merit Award for Directing.
