DEADLAND
by Ted Sterns
Adapted from the short story “Deadland” by Ted Sterns
Genre: Western | Horror
Logline: In 1867 Montana, a bigoted Deputy Marshal reluctantly enlists the aid of a renegade Ojibwe warrior as a guide through hostile Indian Territory in order to safely reach a prospecting camp believed to be suffering a cholera outbreak, only to discover that the dead have risen.
VIRTUAL LIGHT
by Christine Beatty
Adapted from the book “Virtual Light” by William Gibson
Genre: Action | Science-Fiction
Logline: A bike messenger and a young ex-cop come into possession of high-tech “Virtual Light” glasses that harbor proof of a criminal corporate conspiracy, putting them on the run from hired hitmen and corrupt cops in a dystopian future world of oligarchy and technology run amok.
Writer Bio: As a California girl, born and raised – as a boy – Christine D. Beatty brings a wealth of diverse life experience to her filmmaking. Her variegated history shaped her tough yet empathetic viewpoint. Before she embraced her transgender identity, Christine was a (male) hippie, an enlisted man in the U.S. Air Force, an electrician, a college student and a husband. In 1985 “he” walked away from manhood and marriage and started transgender transition. Badly. By mid-1988, Christine had hit lows of prostitution, hard drugs, rehabs and jail, before she finally turned her life around.
Since 1989 she has been a software designer, a journalist, and a published author. In 1995 she put writing on hold to cofound a rock band, Glamazon, which eventually brought her to Los Angeles. In 2002, she left the band and returned to writing. In 2004 she earned a certificate in screenwriting from UCLA Extension.
After helping produce the 2012 award-winning documentary Radio Wars, she took on an independent film project that fell through when the other principals walked away. That was when Christine decided to put herself through film school, so that she would have the knowledge and skill to make films on her own.
